Bye, Bye Facebook
Monday November 09 2020
Julane and I will be placing a link on Facebook this week that will direct viewers to the following message. It's pretty self explanatory.
Julane and I have made the difficult decision to leave Instagram and Twitter and we will be reducing our presence on Facebook to interactions with private genealogy, history, tech support and hobbyist groups. While we wish to stay in touch with family and friends we find that far too many posts on social media platforms have become too toxic for our tastes. The level of hostility coupled with excessive disinformation and censorship is something we no longer wish to experience on a daily basis. This is not exclusively about elections or political party affiliation as some may incorrectly believe. Rather, it is about the increasing lack of polite discourse on social media in general and the attempts by some to control what one sees or hears. We have been considering this action for a quite a while and it was not an easy decision.
We have unfollowed but not unfriended everyone on our Facebook friends list and have deleted our Instagram and Twitter accounts. We will no longer see your posts on a daily basis but do wish to stay in touch with you as we cherish each and every one of you. We will continue to use Messenger for now so that you will be able to communicate if you wish to stay in touch. Please, please, please do not send political links, memes, petitions etc. to our Facebook messenger account as they will be deleted without comment and without being read.
We will be posting multiple times during the week on our website to keep interested family and friends up-to-date on what's going on in our lives. You can go to that main page at www.curtisbrooks.com. Julane and I maintain blogs on the site and you have the ability to respond via an e-mail form. If enough family and friends are interested we will look into updating the blog tools to allow the ability to directly post to it.
Thank you for understanding and we hope that you will choose to stay in touch.
