William Crabtree - Scout
Wednesday February 10 2021
William Crabtree was among the most noted of the American Long Hunters. He served in the Milita and was said to have been tall and slender with red hair.
Dunsmore's War consisted on one battle, the Battle of Point Pleasant, that was fought on 10 Oct 1774. This was a dispute over who would control the area south of the Ohio River. This dispute arose after Britain took control of the region following the end of the French and Indian war. This battle is considered by many to be the first one of the Revolution. A detailed description of these events can be found here.
Soldiers and Public Service in Dunmore's War 1775 lists William's service on page 226 in Fincastle Virginia: William Crabtree, 14 days pay as a Scout.
He would have served under Colonel William Christian in the Fincastle Battalion.
This is further supported by this reference in the book Documentary History of Dunmore's War 1774.
