Pike County Pioneers
The early origins of the Alexander family can be found on the western coast of Scotland. Some of the family moved to Ireland (Ulster) during the reign of King James I. After promises of land ownership went unfulfilled, a large group of these "Scots-Irish" migrated to the new world where land was plentiful. Landing in Philadelphia or Maryland, they then moved west through Pennsylvania to Ohio. Our Alexander family settled in Pike County and their history and descendants are found there. Names included in this family are Grooms, Wolford, Marvin and Stterfield.
The Rose family settled first in Virginia with branches in North Carolina. They made their way west to Ohio. Names included in this family are land, Lester, Wolfe, Bailey and Stafford.
